Board Member
Luke Strait
Luke Strait began his law enforcement career in 1995 with the Milwaukie Police Department, where he served the community for nearly 30 years in roles ranging from patrol officer and general assignment detective to federal task force officer, SWAT team member, sergeant, and operations captain. He ultimately served as Chief of Police for five years, leading with a focus on accountability, innovation, and community trust.

In the final years of his tenure, Luke became increasingly engaged in addressing complex community challenges tied to houselessness, addiction, and behavioral health. Recognizing that traditional policing alone could not fully address these issues, he sought partnerships beyond law enforcement. He worked closely with Glen Suchanek and the Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion (LEAD) program, and forged a meaningful relationship with Brandi Johnson and LoveOne.
These collaborations helped guide the Milwaukie Police Department toward a more compassionate, resource-connected response to those experiencing housing instability and substance use crises.

Luke also co-chaired the Clackamas Community Alliance (formerly the Opioid Task Force), a county-supported, community-led group working to strengthen local responses to the opioid epidemic. His efforts consistently emphasized the importance of partnership and non-traditional solutions in creating safer, healthier communities.
Now working as a detective and living in Clackamas County, Luke continues to support efforts that foster dignity, stability, and second chances. He is proud to serve on the board of LoveOne, bringing a public safety perspective that values empathy, collaboration, and the power of community. He and his wife Stephanie have three daughters and travel regularly to Arizona.
